If you’re like us and you have a furry friend, finding healthy, easy treats for your pup is one of life’s greatest adventures. Finding treats that are healthy AND help keep your pup cool on a hot Florida day is even better.
Jack, our one and a half year old Husky, is an energy-filled, loving puppy. As a Husky he loves to be outdoors in any kind of weather, no matter where he is. One of the biggest things we were concerned about in Florida was keeping him cool and comfortable, and it can be hard to balance exercise throughout the day, as well as finding downtime for our Jackers. In order for Jack to be his happiest and healthiest, we want to feed him treats that are good for his taste buds and his tummy.
One of Jack’s favorite “treats” is ice. That’s right. A chunk of ice straight from the freezer. He even knows the word. He loves to chomp down on it or lick it while it’s on the ground. This is what struck my - Jee Ah - inspiration in making him an ice based treat.
When my inspiration struck I immediately went to TikTok. I looked up “Best Frozen Dog Treats” and saw a lot of different recipes and ideas. I took some of the ideas that I saw and compiled them into my own creation. The goal was simple: Create a healthy treat full of Jack’s favorite things that he actually enjoyed eating. Here’s the result;) .
What You’ll Need:
One Pack of Fresh Fruit (it is important to get fresh fruit, as well as, fruit that your pup enjoys)
Peanut Butter
Unflavored Applesauce
Ice Tray
How to Make It
Take your fresh fruit and cut it into slices (small enough that your puppy will not choke) I chose blueberries for my fresh fruit. Instead of slicing them I used my fingers to smash them (the back of a spoon is also a great option)
Lay the fruit down on the bottom of each ice cube mold. (extra fun - different ice cube molds!)
Pour applesauce on top of the fresh fruit, until each ice cube mold is ¾ full.
Add as little or as much peanut butter as you see fit!
Put in the freezer - let them freeze overnight to guarantee that the applesauce is stuck in place as well as the peanut butter.
Give it to your pup and let them enjoy it!
